Shock turned into support this week when Carrie Underwood shared more details about her horrifying accident.
Fans from around the world took to social media to applaud the country star for revealing that she had received more than 40 stitches in her face after falling on steps last November outside of her home in Nashville.
One Twitter user wrote in response that eventually seeing Carrie step out and embrace her scares will help her to cope with her own facial injury.
“If @carrieunderwood comes back into the spotlight scars & all, I can't even tell you what that will do for my body image issues,” @kaykaysponaugle writes.
Another fan posted a heartfelt letter to the singer on Instagram, writing “scars do not define beauty, who you are inside is what really defines you.”
Carrie opened up about her face surgery in a year-end message to fan club members after first only revealing she had undergone surgery on her wrist.
“There is also another part of the story that I haven’t been ready to talk about since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up,” she wrote in the letter. “It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life.”
Carrie adds she’s “grateful that it wasn’t much, much worse” and “for the people in my life that have been there every step of the way.”
