Waterbeds Could Be Making a Comeback

In the '70s and '80s there was nothing quite as cool as a waterbed. Sometime in the early '90s, however, the fad slipped into obscurity, and it's now just an item of nostalgia -- like cassette tapes or mood rings. Well…not if the creator of the watery mattress has anything to say about it!

71-year-old Charlie Hall is bringing back his beloved invention, and he's loading it up with all sorts of bells and whistles to entice new buyers --specifically Millennials. Later this year, a fancier water bed will hit the market with features like temperature controls, a foam edge to make them easier and more comfortable to get in and out of, and wave suppression so it doesn't feel like you are sleeping on a raft.

When asked what the allure might be to potential buyers, Hall explained, "I think that some people will have a memory of it and want to revisit it just because they remember waterbeds and want to see how different they are. And then there'll be a generation -- it’ll be a total novelty for them."

The beds will be available in Queen and King sizes and cost about $2,000.
