Prince's Sister Breaks Silence About Justin Timberlake's Super Bowl Tribute

Justin Timberlake performed at the Super Bowl LII halftime show on Sunday (Feb. 4) where the Philadelphia Eagles played -- and later won -- against the New England Patriots.

The singer's performance included a video projection of late music icon Prince and many people were torn about this portion of Timberlake's show. Before The Purple One's death, Prince explained how he didn't like digitized holograms, or the like, of dead artists being a part of onstage acts. He called them "demonic."

So, many Prince fans felt that the late star wouldn't have agreed with the projection. Others thought that the tribute was very tasteful and Prince would've approved. "It's a moment for me, and if I'm being quite honest, it's because he's always been the pinnacle of musicianship," Timberlake later explained about his tribute. "And when we decided that the serendipity and synergy [of being] in Minnesota — he's such a special thing here aside from what he is all over the world. I just felt like I wanted to do something for this city and something for him that would just be the ultimate homage to what I consider the GOAT [Greatest of All Time] of musicians."

Since Timberlake's performance, Prince's brother, Omarr Baker, reacted to it with a thumbs up emoji on social media. Now, Prince's sister, Tyka Nelson -- who was his closest sibling -- is speaking out. According to TMZ, "She was pleasantly surprised by Timberlake's performance, and even enjoyed his controversial Prince tribute. She and the rest of Prince's family knew he was planning to sing, 'I Would Die 4 U,' but says they weren't aware he was doing the video projection."

Nelson added that Prince never held a grudge with Timberlake, as she spoke about the two's past "Sexy Back" beef. "He said what he said and kept it moving," the sister of the late legend said.
