Rising Country Singer Dies From Accidental Shooting

Rising country singer Justin Carter has died.

The Texas-born musician was filming a music video in Houston on Saturday (March 16) when he was fatally shot with a gun being used as a prop on set, ABC 13 learned on Thursday (March 21). He was 35.

According to Carter's mother, Cindy McClellan, who spoke with Fox News on her son's tragic sudden death, a firearm in his pocket apparently "went off and caught my son in the corner of his eye."

“He was a wonderful artist. He was the voice, he was the total package and we’re trying to keep his legend [alive]," McClellan told the outlet of Carter, who she described as "a wonderful person, very loving and he loved our God very much."

"He had a Bible in his room, in the den, he had one in his truck. He gave to charities," she added.

Carter's cause of death is still under investigation.

Before his death, Carter, who'd just released his song "Love Affair" on March 9, was also slated to embark on a 10-state tour after being signed to Triple Threat Management, signaling the launch of a music career that was destined to befall him, says McClellan.

Mark Atherton of Triple Threat Management, who confirmed Carter's death yesterday, told ABC 13, “Justin had a potential to, you know, in our eyes, and a lot of people’s eyes, to be the next Garth Brooks."

In the wake of his passing, memorials have been posted to both Carter's Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Rest in Peace, Justin.
