On this episode of Fake Doctors, Real Friends, Zach Braff and Donald Faison admire the beauty of the bougainvillea, share their favorite K-pop hits, do their best versions of Philip Glass’s "Koyaanisqatsi" – and talk about Scrubs episode “My New God,” of course. On Scrubs, Turk and Carla are trying to have a baby (sparking a revealing discussion about methods of conception and the value of “angry sex”); the Janitor tries to get J.D. arrested for burglary (“The guy hates me so much,” Zach muses), and Elliott can’t talk about genitalia, despite being a fully trained medical professional (so they rate her various euphemisms). Oh, and in real life, Zach met Lee Daniels and Debbie Allen at a restaurant recently and performed Debbie’s entire Fame monologue right there at the table. No big deal.
There was a lot to like in the episode; they laugh about the Janitor supplying J.D. with a hat and gloves for his burglary and his bogus explanation of why he has so many Chinese vases and Buddha statues. They also joke about how Dr. Cox’s baby grew up really fast: “He’s got reverse Benjamin Buttons,” Zach laughs. Donald’s biggest laugh came when Elliott was screaming in her car while it was being shaken around by a grizzly bear. “That’s what I would do too!” he laughs. “In that situation, there’s nothing to do but scream!” And that’s no green screen, Zach wants everyone to know: “They brought a f**king giant grizzly bear to that parking lot.”
But the main theme of the episode is Dr. Cox (an atheist who calls all religion “witchcraft”) trying to navigate his relationship with his deeply devout sister. So it’s fitting when their guest caller, Julian, asks for their help coming to terms with his brother, who also holds diametrically-opposing viewpoints and might be passing off some toxic lessons to Julian’s son. “These are the things that break a family apart,” Donald says seriously. But it’s not all sad; Julian also has a Garden State-worthy romance to share with them. Hear the entire hilarious and heartwarming conversation on this episode of Fake Doctors, Real Friends.
