An important milestone has been reached in an organization's effort to put abortion access on the 2024 ballot in Florida.
Floridians Protecting Freedom says the state has verified enough petition signatures to trigger a Supreme Court review of a proposed constitutional amendment which would protect women's access to abortions until fetal viability.
It also adds, it has more than a third of the nearly 900,000 signatures needed by February 1st to get measure on the ballot.
This comes just two days before the Florida Supreme Court hears arguments over the constitutionality of the state's current 15-week abortion ban. That decision will determine whether the six-week ban, passed this past legislative session, can be enforced.
