(Miami, Fla) - The suspect in the abduction of a 9-year-old New York girl was nabbed through a fingerprint hit on a national database.
Miami Police Chief Manny Morales says the fingerprint and DNA databases are essential because criminals keep committing crimes.
Eventually, Charlotte Sena was rescued by a SWAT team after police say the alleged kidnapper, Craig Ross, left his fingerprints on a ransom note he allegedly left in the family mailbox.
Charlotte was found in good health inside a camper.
Chief Morales says stranger abductions are rarer in South Florida. Usually, children are taken by an unauthorized parent during a divorce. Also, law enforcement in New York searched 18-hours for Charlotte before issuing an AMBER Alert. Chief Morales says his policy is more aggressive and he usually issues the alert as soon as possible if foul play is suspected.
