Carly Pearce shared her stunning cover of an emotional ballad that Cam debuted in 2105.
Pearce stood in a bathroom stall as she delivered her rendition of βBurning House,β and reflected on the moment she first heard the hit single nearly a decade ago. The hummingbird star wrote in her caption on Instagram: βI still remember the first time I heard this song and still think itβs one of the best of the last 10 years.Β @camcountryΒ (ps the toilet flushed immediately when we finished recording haha)β
Cam included βBurning Houseβ on Untamed, her 11-track album that released nearly a decade ago. The California-born singer-songwriter said the story behind the song seemed from a dream she had about an ex after their breakup. Cam shared at that time that she and her ex dated off and on in college, and although they loved one another, they werenβt right for each other long-term. Cam said she βfelt really badβ about the breakup, and the following year, the pair would see one another again at a mutual friendβs party.Β
βThe night before, I was planning how I would say sorry,β Cam explained at that time. βI thought exactly how I would do it, and I thought so much about it. I had this dream and it was about a burning house. He was in it, and I ran out to this house and everyone was like, βdonβt go in this house. Heβs in there, but you canβt save him.β I was like, βI donβt care,β and I went insideβ¦ There was no way to get him out, but instead of leaving and letting him die alone, I decided to just stay and just hold him so he wouldnβt have to die alone. And I think (I felt) so much guilt I had for treating him that way even though he was such an important person to me.β
Cam shared her reaction to Pearceβs βBurning Houseβ cover, commenting on Instagram on Monday morning (November 11): βπ₯Ή i remember how i felt when i first heard every little thing. Kinda held my breath so i wouldnβt miss anything as it played β€οΈ you deliver sadness so well, and thatβs my favorite kind of country.β
Pearce released βEvery Little Thingβ in 2017. It served as the title track of her debut album, which also included βHide The Wineβ and more. Most recently, Pearce released hummingbird, a 14-track album with βcountry music made me do it,β βtruck on fire,β βwe donβt fight anymoreβ with Chris Stapleton, and other highlights. Pearce recently kicked off her global headlining tour with dates spanning through spring 2025. Watch her cover βBurning Houseβ here:
