Country singer and former winner of The Voice Sundance Head is reportedly recovering from a gunshot wound after an incident on his ranch in Texas.

Trey Newman, Head’s agent, confirmed to TMZ, PEOPLE and other outlets on Friday (November 15) that the incident took place on the singer-songwriter’s ranch in rural Texas. Head was reportedly hunting alone in the woods at the time, around 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. CT. The former Team Blake Shelton artist was airlifted to a hospital in Tyler, Texas. Newman told NBC News that although “we don’t have info on exactly how it happened,” officials “are 100% positive it was not self inflicted.”

"At this point, he is not undergoing surgery. The doctors have decided to leave the bullet in him. But that could change," Newman told PEOPLE on Friday. "Right now he's in stable condition and the doctors are just monitoring him and checking his vitals — they are making sure he's okay. He's one of the best guys I know, and we are all just hoping he'll be okay. He's the best guy around."

Head’s wife, Misty, shared an update on her husband’s verified Facebook page on Friday evening. She said Head is in “good spirits,” considering what happened, and confirmed “no internal damage was done by the bullet. Thank you all for the prayers.” Misty confirmed that Head was at the ranch hunting by himself at the time. She said it was not his hunting rifle and no one shot him. When Head reached into his vehicle for his .22, it fell from the holster “and hit the exterior of the Jeep just right and went off,” per Misty’s post. Though she initially believed her husband called 911 himself, she noted that Head drive to the main road to flag down a car and get help.

“He’s so lucky and grateful to be alive. Thank you to the Good Samaritan who stopped and helped and the fast response by life flight and the doctors,” Misty said. She said the bullet hit Head’s stomach “in his fatty tissue.” She said “please just keep him in your prayers.”
