Sundance Head spoke out for the first time since recovering from an accidental gunshot wound on his Texas ranch on Friday (November 15). The country singer-songwriter and winner of The Voice shared an initial statement in a video posted to his social media pages on Sunday evening (November 17).
Head, 46, thanked first responders, the trauma team at the hospital in Tyler, Texas, those who prayed for him and his family, and the drivers who stopped on the side of the road to help after the incident. Head was reportedly hunting alone in the woods around 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. CT when it happened. Head’s wife, Misty, shared an update on her husband’s Facebook page that evening. She confirmed in that post that her husband’s .22 fell from the holster “and hit the exterior of the Jeep just right and went off.” She requested prayers for her husband as he continued to recover.
The former Team Blake Shelton artist promised to share more about his story at a later date. In the first part of his statement, Head said:
“I wanted to come on and tell you guys that I’m still alive, thankfully, thanks to the Good Lord above and the wonderful first responders that helped me, as well as the trauma team at UT Tyler. They did a wonderful job, and they really did keep me alive. I was sure that I was gonna die. It was one of the craziest things that’s ever happened to me, and I can’t — I’m gonna elaborate on this more. I’ve got a wonderful story to tell you about this. If there’s any such thing as being shot and then coming out with some kind of positive thing out of it. But I really do have one. And I’m going to have to do it in parts so that it gets out here and I have enough time to be able to tel you everything that I’s like to tell you. But I really wanted to come on here and tell you guys that I am alive. I’m in a lot of pain. I was shot accidentally in the stomach. I was alone. It was one of the craziest things that could have possibly happened. If we could relive this thing and do it 999,000 more times, it wouldn’t happen. And I’ll elaborate more in another video, step-by-step, exactly how it happened to me. But I am thankful to be alive. I have a lot of life left and that’s what I was telling these ladies and gentlemen that (were) trying to keep me alive during the whole process, man. I just, really, I’m so thankful for the first responders. They did a wonderful job. And I also want to thank the people that were on Highway 84 that stopped to help me. Without you, man, I don’t think I was gonna make it, man. I was bleeding out right there. didn’t have anyone to help me, and you know, I had about a dozen cars go by and see me and make eye contact, and they didn’t stop. They just kept going, man, and I’m telling you what, buddy. I was at the end of the road. So, I am really, really fortunate and thankful for the couple of gentlemen that did turn around, and I want to tell you honestly that I love you and I’m so thankful that you were in my life at that moment. And it wasn’t a chance meeting between us. And I look forward to spending more time with you in the future. So, I’ll put some more out about this. I want to tell everyone thank you for praying for me and my family. (It) was the most scary thing I’ve ever went through, and I still have the bullet in me. I’m not sure exactly what’s going to go on. All I know is I didn’t die (the) day before yesterday, and I have another opportunity to live, and I feel like the Lord has blessed me just beyond — I can’t even comprehend, really, you know, given me sobriety, allowing to learn, to love myself again, to find a spirit in me that I can be proud of and would like to share with everyone, and the opportunity to live and be able to talk about the things I’ve been through in life through song. That’s how I communicate, and that’s the only thing I know how to do. So, I really love you, really thank you, and look forward to sharing the rest of the story with you.”
