The Tampa Bay Lightning (1-2-0) defeated the Boston Bruins (3-1-0) 4-3 on Monday afternoon at TD Garden to pick up their first win of the 2025-2026 regular season.
Anthony Cirelli scored twice in the first period to give the Lightning an early 2-0 lead. Then in the second period Yanni Gourde scored to make it 3-0 early in the frame before Boston got on the board . Pontus Holmberg's goal at the 3:37 mark of the second - his first as a member of the Lightning - made it 4-1.
The Bruins pushed back with two more goals in the second to pull within 4-3, but that would be as close as the Lightning would get. Jonas Johansson got the start in net, getting 30 saves of the 33 shots he faced.
The Lightning now travel to Washington to play the Capitals in the second game of a back-to-back. Puck drop Tuesday night is scheduled for 7:00 PM from Washington, DC.
