Miranda Lambert Captures 'Timeless Energy' In '70s-Inspired Tribute

Miranda Lambert debuted a “dreamy, California-soaked song” from her upcoming disco-inspired record.

Lambert teamed up with co-producer Jesse Frasure, David Garcia, Waylon Payne and Ashley Monroe to write “Sunset Marquis,” which closes out the country star’s 12-track album, Crisco. The upbeat anthem with a “breezy, ’70s-inspired groove” serves as a tribute to the West Hollywood hotel where Lambert has stayed for about two decades. The Sunset Marquis Hotel “has long served as a creative refuge for musicians, actors and artists alike,” according to a press release issued Friday morning (August 7). Lambert’s newest Crisco release “captures the timeless allure of a place ‘where time stands still... where the stars come out and the music’s loud,’ inviting listeners to slip away into its unmistakable atmosphere,” it states.

“I've been staying at the Sunset Marquis for close to 20 years,” Lambert shared in a statement. “Every time I'm there, you never know who you’re going to run into or what kind of memories you’re going to make. It has this timeless energy that feels like stepping into another era. When we wrote this song, I wanted listeners to be able to close their eyes and feel like they were there with us – to see it, smell it and experience the magic that’s made the Sunset Marquis such a special place for so many years.”

“Sunset Marquis” — which will also be featured in a documentary premiering on August 14 — follows the title track, “Till The Going’s Gone” and “A Song To Sing” with Chris Stapleton from Lambert’s next studio record:

“I've always loved every corner of country music,” Lambert, the most-awarded Academy of Country Music winner of all time, previously said in a statement. “The heartbreak songs, the honky-tonk songs, the songs that make you think and the songs that make you dance. Making this record reminded me that those things don’t have to be separated. We followed the songs wherever they wanted to go, trusted our instincts and ended up with something that feels really fun and really honest to who I am.”
