Marcus Mumford Recalls a 'Quite Embarrassing' Moment With Bruce Springsteen

On Monday (September 24), Mumford & Sons paid a visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and before the quartet lit up the stage with the TV debut of their new single, "Guiding Light," singer Marcus Mumford had a chat with Fallon about the band's recently announced fourth studio album, Delta.

The album is slated for a November 16th release, but only “if we finish it on time," Mumford admitted, "’cause we’re still working on it.” He then talked about his influences, which range from Miles Davis and Lauryn Hill to Bruce Springsteenbefore delving into a "quite embarrassing" story about an encounter he had with The Boss at a festival in Belgium where both acts performed.

"During his set, we were on the side of the stage, and he turned and beckoned in our direction," Mumford recalled, cracking a joke about how he looked over his shoulder thinking Springsteen must be signaling to "Arcade Fire or someone cool," but he was motioning to them.

"By that time we were really overly excited," he continued. “So we stumbled on stage and I forgot the lyrics to ‘Hungry Heart.' It’s quite hard to forget the lyrics to ‘Hungry Heart’ – that’s how nervous I was.”
