Multiple People Injured By Lightning At PGA Tour Championship in Atlanta

A lightning storm caused injuries to several people at the 2019 PGA FedEx Cup Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta,GA today. Play was halted just after 4:00 ET due to the weather. The harmful lightning strike occurred about 30 minutes later when it struck a tree that several fans had taken cover under.

According to the Atlanta Journal, four adult males and a juvenile were alert when they were taken to local hospitals for treatment. There are reports of other injuries as well.

The PGA Tour said two lightning strikes hit East Lake Golf Club at 4:45 p.m. ET, The Tour said that a tree in the area between the practice range, the 15th green and the 16th tee "was hit and debris from that strike injured four people."
