I donate blood every chance I get. It's a great way to give back and save lives and it takes no time out of your day. According to the New York Times there is a historic blood shortage going on. The Red Cross has announced the first ever national blood crisis. They say that the supply is so low, some hospitals are having to cancel surgeries.
If you're wondering how bad it is, the Red Cross says at this time of year they typically have a three day supply. Right now they are barely able to keep one day supply on hand.
