Tess' Family Camping Trip to Fort Pickens

My husband Brett and I both grew up camping with our families. We truly enjoy being in nature whether it's hiking, camping, mountain biking or even sitting on the beach (beaches are nature too ok!)

When we got married and started our family, we knew that it would be an activity that we would make sure we enjoy with our own children as well. Fort Pickens had been on our radar for a while to try to explore since moving here to Florida, so when we had a chance to get away for a bit this past weekend, we packed up a TON of stuff and headed West to Pensacola to have a little adventure with the kids.

The weather was absolutely gorgeous for our adventure. It took about 2 hours and 45 minutes to get there and since we were too early to check into the campsite we went to one of the battery sites that surround the fort for a little exploring and a picnic lunch. Then it was on to the fort itself! It was built in the late 1800's and I won't get into all of the history surrounding it, but we really enjoyed learning all about it and it was so very neat to explore.

Then Finn fell asleep as we made our way to the campsite and he napped in the car while we set up our new tent and got the campsite set up. Then Finn and I took a short walk to the water while Mac and Brett set up the fire for our dinner. Then it was hot dogs and chips and s'mores and the nicest camp neighbors that had a bubble machine and brought it out for the boys to play. They had some trouble settling down for the night, but they eventually went down and Mom and Dad got some cozy campfire time together.
