Orlando, FL - Prominent Florida attorney John Morgan is reportedly considering a gubernatorial run in the state, proposing the formation of a new political entity, the "Capitalist Party," to address what he perceives as a need for a major political shift in the state.
Politico reports that Morgan, known for his advocacy of constitutional amendments on marijuana legalization and minimum wage increases, has been a no-party affiliated voter for several years.
Reflecting on his previous political engagements, Morgan told Politco, "What I learned from those two things was that when you take the ‘D’ and the ‘R’ down, most of us agree on most things, and I find that very encouraging."
In his vision for the state's leadership, Morgan expressed interest in Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd as a potential running mate.
Political analysts, such as University of Central Florida's Professor Aubrey Jewett, suggest that Morgan's potential candidacy could resonate with voters seeking alternatives beyond traditional party lines.
Professor Jewett told FOX 35 Orlando "While most third-party candidates or independents don't really get off the ground politically in a competitive race, because he's so well-known in Florida, because he has so much money and this reputation for being plainspoken and 'For the People,' I think he'd be pretty formidable."
