A troubling trend continues in a Martin County community.

The Sheriff's Office reports that a cat was found dragging herself in agony after being shot with a pellet gun. A resident of the Manatee Creek development on Tuesday called 911 to report the discovery of a severely injured cat named "Kitty Kitty."

Investigators say the cat had been shot at close range in the middle of her back with a pellet gun, causing immediate paralysis. Kitty Kitty had to be euthanized due to the extent of her injuries.

The Sheriff's Office says that according to neighbors there have been previous instances of cats being shot or targeted with pellet guns in Manatee Creek.

They want to hear from anyone with information on this shooting and remind the public that animal cruelty is a felony, carrying a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
