Tallahassee, FL - Florida has scheduled the execution of Victor Tony Jones, 64, who was convicted of allegedly fatally stabbing a married couple during a robbery in Miami-Dade County in 1990.
Jones is set to be executed on September 30th under a death warrant signed by Governor Ron DeSantis.
This would be the 13th execution in Florida this year, marking the highest annual total since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976.
Florida has already executed 11 people in 2025, more than any other state, with Texas and South Carolina each carrying out four executions.
Nationwide, 30 people have been executed this year, surpassing last year’s total of 25 and approaching the 35 executions recorded in 2014.
Jones was sentenced to death in 1993 on two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed robbery.
Court records indicate that Jones had recently started working at a business owned by Matilda and Jacob Nestor in December 1990 when he allegedly stabbed Matilda Nestor in the neck and Jacob Nestor in the chest.
Before dying from his injuries, Jacob Nestor reportedly retrieved a .22 caliber handgun from an office and fired five shots, striking Jones in the forehead.
Police later found Jones at the scene with the couple’s money and personal property in his possession.
Jones’ case is scheduled to be reviewed by the Florida Supreme Court, and additional appeals may be filed with the U.S. Supreme Court.
Another Florida inmate, David Pittman, is also awaiting execution next month.
